Koen Drossaert

Architect, Founding Partner

Koen (1973, Antwerp, B) graduated cum laude as an architect at the Henry Van de Velde Institute in Antwerp. He gained one year of experience as a project architect at Christian Kieckens Architects and set up his own architectural practice at the same time. He then obtained a postgraduate degree in the architecture research laboratory at the Berlage Institute (NL). After winning a number of competitions, he founded HUB architecten with Bart Biermans in 2004.

Koen has years of experience in the design and realization of buildings and master plans at the intersection of architecture and urban planning. This often involves (innercity) urban projects within dynamic conditions and in a complex setting. Through his role as project director in large-scale area developments, he has built up extensive experience in the dynamic environment of public-private cooperation. As a result, he acquired strong skills in investigative and negotiating design, in function of the realization of a spatially ambitious, supported and feasible end result.

Based on his experience, Koen was appointed supervisor in various area developments, regularly sits on juries as an external expert, and gives lectures and guest lectures at educational institutions. For example, he was a guest lecturer at Eindhoven University of Technology (NL)from 1999 to 2001 and at the Academy of Architecture in Maastricht (NL) from 2000 to 2003. From 2000 to 2004, Koen was also a member of the Concept Group of the private developer MAB, later Bouwfonds MAB (NL). From 2014 to 2020, Koen was a permanent member of the City of Antwerp's Welfare Committee.

At HUB, he combines his content expertise with a role in the management team. He is partly responsible for the substantive and strategic course, the acquisition of new projects, and bears ultimate responsibility for the financial management of HUB and the various affiliated companies.
