Morkhoven housing project, Deurne (B).
Living near the square and community garden.
The Morkhoven project is an expansion project between the Herentalsebaan and Ergo de Waellaan in Deurne. At the level of the neighborhood, it connects slow traffic via an enfillade with a forecourt, a park and a community garden. Eight buildings will be placed along this public space. These house residences and limited office space. The buildings are arranged in an articulated layout, which gives structure and scale to the open space. The scale of the buildings decreases the further they are from the Herentalsebaan and closer to the community garden.
The buildings are juxtaposed and function autonomously. Yet, together, they form one ensemble where subtle differences in the façade, detailing and materialization make the transition from robust, urban architecture to a softer and smaller image that connects with the garden. The resulting neighborhood includes 173 homes in a nice mix of 1, 2 and 3-bedroom apartments, with limited office space at the front square on the Herentalsebaan. The typologies adapt to the location in the project and the adjacent public space. Apartments that are more suitable for families with children are located in the neighborhood garden, while apartments that are mainly suitable for elderly people are more likely to be located in the forecourt and the park. However, there is no strict separation; rather, this distinction is made gradually.
The composition of the buildings and the design of the facades is important for the scale and anchoring of the project in the neighborhood and in the public space. The collective entries play an important role in this. These are designed as beautiful covered outdoor spaces and thus form a smooth transition from outside to inside.

Images/videos are always set to 4 or 6 columns wide.
Within a 'Project', two additional sizes are used:
- Full-screen image (all columns)
- Carousel (8 columns)
A maximum of 2 images or videos can be on the same row, with at least 1 column of space between them.
'Panels' always accompany corresponding content and never stand alone.
Only one 'Panel' can be attached to each row.
